life at first wish.

a tea cup holding the moon,

look into its eyes,

say it,

it wants to go back.

come closer.

if this is its birthday wish,

then just look into its eyes and say it,

& it will make its wish come true.

hold the pocket ring,

dry its tears,

whistle what it waits for.

yet what it carries,

what it waits for,

a wish that circles,

like the moon in a cup,

it just lacks an ending.

the teacup cradles the moon,

tea quivering against the porcelain,

& from the rim

a whistle drifts,

“don’t forgive me.”
