In 2024, major U.S. airlines have raised their checked baggage fees. Additionally, there are moves to make carry-on bags more desirable by increasing their maximum allowable size. Delta and Alaska have increased their fees from $30 to $35 for first bag ($45 second and $150 third and additional bags), United from $30 to $35-40 depending on whether the flight is domestic or international, American from $35 to $40, and JetBlue now has the highest fee at $45, up from $35. Meanwhile, Southwest, known for offering a free companion pass and free 1st and 2nd checked bags and recently raising flight attendants' wages, also boasts the highest pilot wages in the industry. All eyes are now on Southwest to see if it will join other airlines in raising its baggage fees or not.

We're also waiting to see if other airlines will follow suit. Ironically, if carry-on storage is full, flight attendants often check bags at no extra charge. Amidst these increases in luggage fees, Boeing faces its own challenges with reports of exploding plane parts and dropping rates. To address these issues, Boeing has appointed a new female leader, signaling a strategic shift to tackle these emerging challenges. What are the key initiatives planned by Boeing's new female leader to address safety and technology challenges?
